Description
Mini Red Moon Jar in porcelain by Tricia Thom
H12cm
About Tricia:
Tricia currently works from her home studio in Edinburgh, making wheel-thrown porcelain vessel forms.
She is attracted to working with porcelain because of the perceived fragility but inherent strength, and is motivated by the process… the meditative, calming, repetitive nature of throwing on the wheel is what sustains her.
In her practice, she frequently returns to the teapot form as a vehicle to explore the challenges of composition, proportions and function. By expanding her throwing skills, she strives to further exploit those unique porcelain qualities. She enjoys the process of articulating handles, spouts and lids, and playing with the subtle balance of curves that make a form sing. The symbolism offered by teapot and moon jar forms, for her, has cultural significance, with reference to eastern cultures, and suggests something about community.
“I am inspired by the process of making on the wheel, with porcelain. Balance and proportion of the form is key for me, sometimes complementing that with a loose, gestural surface treatment.”
