John Jelfs- Weekend Teapot Masterclass
March 21 @ 9:00 am - March 22 @ 5:00 pm| £250
The Masterclass will be led by John Jelfs, from Cotswold Pottery. John has over 30 years experience and the focus of his pots has always been pure form. His pots are all hand thrown and he uses celadon, ochre and shino glazes, made from wood ash and clay. He also soda-fires and has a large woodfired kiln at the Whichford Pottery. John’s work has been exhibited at leading Galleries world-wide.
>This is a weekend Masterclass aimed at people who already have intermediate throwing skills and who wish to learn to produce teapots, using more advanced techniques of studio pottery in a professional working studio environment. The Masterclass is suitable for those who have experience of throwing, and are able to centre and are confident throwing a 15cm cylinder.
There will be a range of demonstrations by John and then prolonged sessions for throwing and assembling facilitated by the tutor. Over the weekend you will be guided through making the component parts of the teapot and the final assembly. Through this practical Masterclass, we aim to teach you a variety of techniques to help you produce a well made teapot
All tools and materials will be provided, but we kindly ask that you bring an apron and a towel to use during the Masterclass.
The course runs over the weekend of Saturday 21st March to Sunday 22nd March. We provide a light lunch each day and tea, coffee and biscuits are available throughout the weekend.
Clay College is a not-for-profit organisation so all the proceeds from our masterclasses support the work we do.
