About Britta:

Trained in Germany, Britta followed the ancient crafts tradition of travelling for three years and a day to deepen her skills and learning about different cultural aspects of ceramics. During this time, she worked for potters in Germany, France, England and New Zealand.

In 2012, Britta became a permanent member of the production team at the Leach Pottery as a production thrower and ceramics tutor.

Influenced by her travels, Britta draws inspiration from both European and Oriental pottery traditions as well as from the wild landscapes of West Penwith, Cornwall where she works from her home studio producing a wide range of kitchen and tableware, as well as larger, decorative vessels.

Her pieces are decorated while the clay is still soft using a variety of techniques such as faceting, fluting, rouletting, sprigging and other altering methods adding intricacy and movement, striving to achieve the delicate balance between beauty and functionality.

“I have always been fascinated by objects of daily living, enjoying both their simplicity and humbleness. I therefore love to create pots that are both functional as well as beautiful to be used and handled every day, giving simple acts like making tea, cooking and sharing meals an almost ritualistic quality. I draw my inspiration from European as well as Far Eastern ceramic traditions, and the nature that surrounds me. Good craftsmanship and attention to detail, as well as the philosophies and stories by the potters I encountered over the years, inform the making of my pots.”
