Suleyman Saba makes a range of hand-thrown tableware, teapots and vases in stoneware from his studio in Camberwell in South London. Small batch production of repeat items allow for a more flexible working routine, which Suleyman combines with regular teaching.
Ideas and inspiration for his pots are initially drawn from sketchbooks, and fleshed out on the potter’s wheel to explore the subtleties of thrown forms. White stoneware is used for much of the work, along with a small collection of glazes, and fired in oxidation to either 1200°C or 1260°C. Living and working in the London Metropolis reflects his passion for combining traditional techniques with modern sensibilities.
