Description
Tiny Single Stem Vase (salt-fired tenmoku glaze) by Francis Lloyd-Jones
About Francis:
Francis works in the South Lakes, Cumbria. All his work is thrown and sometimes altered, with an aim to look for a balance between looseness and definition. They are intended for daily routine, drawing out the contentment of habitual domestic activities.
Functional objects are the main concern, pots made for use, but also pots that nod to a past function, often featuring remnants of utilitarian components now ultimately defunct but re-purposed as decoration.
Francis fires his work in a salt kiln and uses a muted palette of slips and glazes to complement his forms, looking to the salt vapours for variation across each piece.
“My work evolves quite slowly. Most of what I make is made in fairly modest batches so small incremental changes creep in over time. Proportion and form are usually at the forefront of my mind, seeking a tension between softness and rigidity.”
