About Harriet Coleridge

Inspired by her experience building a willow kiln at Wytham in Oxford, Harriet learnt how to fire pots in an anagama kiln. The pots exhibited at Clay College were all fired in her aptly named Cuckoo Kiln in the Charente region of France. The pots are packed on stepped stacks in the chamber and are decorated by fly ash and embers as the flames weave their way through the pots. Fired only once per year in April, the cuckoo calls ceaselessly throughout the firing.
