Experience the elegant Japanese art of Ikebana—floral arrangement that celebrates balance, simplicity, and the natural beauty of form.
Whether you’re a beginner or have experience in floral design, this workshop offers a rare opportunity to learn from a skilled artist and discover a new way of seeing and creating with nature.
About the Artist
Junko Popham is an Ikebana artist born in Tokyo, who moved to London in 1989 and is now based in Manchester. With many years of teaching experience, she has developed a distinctive approach rooted in her belief that Ikebana is a “copy of nature.”
She describes her work as “Junko’s Flower Dance Company”—a philosophy where seasonal flowers, leaves, and stems are encouraged to “dance and sing” in the air.
Guided by her philosophy—“Let flowers dance and sing freely”—Junko creates arrangements that are both bold and gentle. She often collaborates with ceramic artists, bringing together natural elements and crafted forms in harmonious balance.
The Masterclass Experience
Junko’s teaching blends traditional Ikebana techniques with a contemporary perspective influenced by her life in the North of England.

During the workshop, Junko will guide you in creating your own beautiful floral arrangement using a bespoke Ikebana vessel, thoughtfully crafted by master potter Kevin Millward.
All flowers will be provided, and you’ll be able to take your arrangement home with you.

Clay College offers a small selection of tickets at a reduced rate for early-career potters and those who otherwise could not afford to attend. Please only book tickets at this rate if you are unable to afford the full price.
