About Jaeeun

Jaeeun Kim is a ceramic artist based in the UK, originally from Korea. She works with porcelain and stoneware, creating small, functional vessels with hand-painted surfaces.

She completed an MA in Ceramics in Korea and later continued her practice while spending time in the Czech Republic as an exchange student. These experiences helped shape her approach, combining careful making with a more intuitive way of decorating.

Her work is based on the art therapy concept of House-Tree-Person, connected to her own childhood memories. She reflects on her everyday journeys back home when she was young, using these memories as a starting point for her work. Through making, she explores personal stories and emotions, treating the process as a form of self-therapy.

She focuses on simple forms, often vases, which suggest a house and become like paper for drawing. Using underglaze, she builds soft layers of colour and marks. Her work suggests quiet moments, movement, and a sense of returning.

“My work begins with memories of walking back home as a child. Through making, I layer emotions and traces onto simple forms, and the process becomes a way of understanding myself.”
