Tea Bowl, Shino Glaze made by Richard St. John Heeley.
Wood fired porcelain/stoneware blend. A wider drinking vessel –Chawan. This pot is a beautiful example of the cross draft kiln. On one face the iron addition in the clay body has created a darker orange tone on one side, the inky fish sitting clearly on with a subtle hakeme stroke. The other has been directly in the flame path and has a distinct ‘ash face’ again sitting on a white slip stroke it has produced a lovely soda silver flash with ‘snakeskin’ ash build up. There is some carbon trapping occurring on the rim along with some heavy ash build up on the fish side. It is stamped with three marks: Richard St John Heeley, the Hempmill stamp and the oak leaf stamp that indicates it has been fired in the wood kiln.
It has its own wooden box with decorated mulberry paper wrapping,
Dimensions: H90mm – W110mm
