Wood fired porcelain/stoneware blend Tea Bowl made by Richard St. John Heeley. An everyday drinking cup, probably the simplest of the seven. The Iron in the body has helped the shino glaze go a lovely hazelnut colour, sadly this hides its iridescence.(It has a lovely opalescent pool in its base.) On the back face, the carbon trapping has created a darker orange tone over the hakeme, However the front inky fish sits clearly on the contrasting hakeme stroke. There is also some lovely black carbon trapping occurring on the stamps. It is stamped with three marks: Richard St John Heeley, the Hempmill stamp and the oak leaf stamp that indicates it has been fired in the wood kiln.
A good generous balance and weight with a soft glossy feel to the glaze sit comfortably on rounded curves. This bowl should be a joy to use
It has its own wooden box with decorated mulberry paper wrapping
Dimensions: H90mm – W105mm
