About Vicky:
Vicky Hageman is a British ceramicist whose work combines traditional craftsmanship with modern design to create functional yet subtly expressive porcelain pieces. She studied ceramics at Edinburgh College of Art, graduating in 1998, and moved to Kent in 2000 where she established her studio, now located in the garden of her family home.
Working alongside raising a family, Vicky’s practice has continued to develop, shaped by an ever-growing understanding of material and process. Her work is wheel thrown in porcelain, then carefully finished with delicately incised and inlaid lines of slip, or with sgraffito stripes. These crisp, hand drawn marks introduce gentle variations, giving each piece its own distinctive character. The work is fired in an electric kiln.
There is a quiet precision to Vicky’s work that reflects years of experience with porcelain. The clarity of form and crispness of line create pieces that appear deceptively simple, yet reveal a high level of technical expertise and control. Her influences range from Mid-century design to the coastal landscape of her hometown, alongside a long-standing love of cooking and the rituals of preparing and serving food and drink; an influence that underpins the functional nature of her work.
Vicky’s ceramics are stocked by shops and galleries throughout the UK, including Cambridge Contemporary Crafts, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and Frank Whitstable. She regularly exhibits and sells her work at ceramic fairs such as Potfest and the Oxford Ceramics Fair, as well as through her website, Open Studios and other local events.
“I am interested in making pots that will become part of everyday rituals in the home.”
