New term – New project – New inspiration
Clay College being located in Stoke on Trent mean the history of industrial pottery is on the doorstep. With the launch of the new tea set projects this was a perfect opportunity to go out and gather some inspiration from a resource on the doorstep.
Students visited the World of Wedgwood. The redeveloped site in Barlaston houses the UNESCO recognised V&A museum collection showing the 250 years history of Wedgwood including the development of processes and craftsmanship. The site also houses the archives of the factory and the UK factory.
Students were given the opportunity to spend a full day on site; visiting the factory and the museum. The education team also arranged a handling opportunity of some of the ware from the museum and rare access to the archives. The archives were definitely a highlight of the day especially seeing the hand drawn pattern books from the 18th Century. The whole day was a valuable source of inspiration.
