During a the first half of the year whilst most days were spent at the main site of Middleport, time was also found to work and finish preparation on the site the wood kiln was to be built. Over winter Richard Heeley (Tutor) had begun with preparations on site. The area to be used had drainage built in and the ground was leveled before kiln pads were poured.
Once the site was prepared work in May and June work began to install timbers to support the roof accross all the kiln pads. These were long full days on site though the students also had an opportunity to brush up their carpentry skills.
During the summer months we were very lucky that after a long cold winter once the weather turned brighter it stayed that way.
