There will be a range of demonstrations as well as plenty of opportunities to practice throwing and to develop your technique. The weekend is suitable for those who have experience of throwing, are able to centre clay, and are confident in throwing a 10cm cylinder, but who want to develop greater consistency in their throwing and learn to throw bigger and taller pots. The course will cover:
  • Clay preparation; wedging and kneading.
  • Centering clay.
  • Lifting techniques, hand grips & throwing ribs.
  • Handles, appendages and surface decoration.
  • Lids.
  • Fixing wooden bats.
  • Turning.
The course will be taught by professional potter; Andy Mason who has many years of ceramic expertise and a wealth of tutoring experience.  Situated in the historic Middleport Pottery, the College offers a creative environment and excellent facilities including a potter’s wheel for each student. We are not able to fire any of the pieces from this masterclass but if you would like to take what you have thrown over the weekend with you, please bring a box for safe transportation.
