Clay College Stoke is very pleased to be able to offer a weekend Pottery Improvers Throwing course. The course runs over the weekend of Saturday 24th July and Sunday 25th July. There will be a range of demonstrations as well as plenty of opportunities to practice throwing and to develop your technique. The weekend is suitable for those who have experience of throwing, are able to centre clay, and are confident in throwing a 10cm cylinder, but who want to develop greater consistency in their throwing and learn to throw bigger and taller pots. The class will be led by Brian Dickenson, an extremely skilled potter who has over 30 years of experience of making ceramic wares, speciality is thrown functional wares. He has run three professional workshops producing high fired Stoneware, mid-temperature Slipware and more recently traditional Earthenware. Brian has a wealth of experience teaching pottery at various different levels; from raw beginners to MA level students, as well as tutoring advanced practitioners wishing to overcome particular problems. Situated in the historic Middleport Pottery, the College offers a creative environment and excellent facilities including a potter’s wheel for each student. We are not able to fire any of the pieces from this masterclass but if you would like to take what you have thrown over the weekend with you, please bring a box for safe transporting. We have a number of Covid-19 safety measures in place to ensure your time at the college is both enjoyable and safe. We will require proof of a negative lateral flow test 48 hours in advance and before entering on Saturday/Sunday morning. Clay College is a not-for-profit organisation so all the proceeds from our masterclasses support the work we do.
