Pots for Food!

Clay College students have been getting back into the swing of college life, completing a project called Pots for Food where they explored forms such as Lidded Casseroles, Plates, Serving Platters and Storage Jars.

The students were able to choose and develop different clay bodies and their own glazes for this project and combined methods of throwing alongside hand-building. These ranged from terracotta slipware in the electric kiln, mid-temperature cone 6 as well as high fired porcelain in a gas reduction firing. This has been a really important project for the students to identify which clay bodies and firing methods they enjoy working with whilst thinking about where their creative practice will take them in the future!

It has been very inspiring for the students to complete this project alongside the Pots for Food exhibition in the gallery where they have been able to enjoy and handle many different styles of functional ware. Here are some of the completed pots!
